We select aerial and LiDAR methods according to terrain, access, coverage and the intended use of the data. Airborne LiDAR can produce dense point clouds and terrain information across broad areas. UAV imagery can document sites from above and support mapping, monitoring and visual records. Captured information can support models, surface analysis and digital project environments. Aerial methods can reduce the need to place personnel across difficult or extensive terrain while still gathering spatial information.

Common questions

What does LiDAR measure?
LiDAR measures distance by recording the return of emitted laser pulses from surfaces. Large numbers of measurements combine to form detailed three-dimensional point-cloud data.
How can UAV surveys support mapping projects?
UAVs can capture imagery and sensor data across areas that may be inefficient to cover entirely from the ground. The collected information can support mapping, modelling, monitoring and site documentation.
What is the difference between aerial imagery and LiDAR?
Aerial imagery records visual information from a camera, while LiDAR directly measures distances using laser pulses. Projects may use either method or combine them when both visual and geometric information are valuable.
